ICE Tracker: Innocent Father, Assault Victim, Organ Donor—All Targeted

The latest from Daily Beast, The Guardian, Detroit Free Press, WGN9 Chicago, WPRI 12 Rhode Island, and New York Times

Good morning! We lead today’s ICE Tracker with Ranking Member Jaime Raskin’s argument on Tuesday before the House Judiciary Committee, which you can watch in the video above. Raskin speaks about a Maryland father with legal status, on his way to pick up his autistic son, who was seized by ICE and deported without a hearing, charges, or judge—just shackled and disappeared into a Salvadoran mega-prison, indefinitely. It’s sobering stuff, but it’s not over. As Nancy Cordes reported yesterday from the White House for CBS News, there will be a hearing on Friday to discuss next steps—

For now, suffice to say the situation looks bleak for anyone in the El Salvador torture prison—but we will keep tracking the case. Meanwhile, send the latest ICE news to tips@migrantinsider.com

THE DAILY BEAST: The Trump administration admitted to mistakenly deporting Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland father Raskin talks about, to El Salvador’s notorious CECOT mega prison due to an administrative error, but claims it cannot bring him back despite lacking evidence of his alleged MS-13 gang ties.

WGN9 CHICAGO: A Venezuelan migrant detained by ICE faces deportation, jeopardizing his brother’s life-saving kidney transplant as the community rallies for his release on humanitarian grounds.

THE GUARDIAN: Mounting legal and public pressure forces ICE to confront systemic issues of overcrowding, poor conditions, and human rights concerns across its sprawling network of immigration detention centers in the South.

DETROIT FREE PRESS: A Guatemalan woman who reported an attack to Michigan police now faces deportation after inadvertently crossing into Canada due to incorrect GPS directions, leading to her detention by U.S. immigration authorities.

THE NEW YORKER: A gay makeup artist named Andry José Hernández Romero was among the Venezuelans President Trump deported to El Salvador. Andry’s offense? Having the wrong tattoos.

NEW YORK TIMES: A University of Minnesota graduate student, Dogukan Gunaydin, was detained by ICE due to a visa revocation stemming from a 2023 DUI conviction, not campus activism, prompting a lawsuit and concerns about the Trump administration's immigration enforcement tactics.

WPRI12: John O’Brien, a 27-year-old Irish national, was arrested in Warwick, Rhode Island, on March 28, 2025, and is detained by ICE for allegedly running a multistate construction fraud scheme through his company, Traditional Masonry and Construction, accused of damaging home foundations and charging for unnecessary repairs.
