Trump Admin Plans Major Visa Ban of African Nations
Proposed expansion would bar entry from 26 African nations, making the continent the most restricted region under Trump’s immigration agenda.
WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is considering a sweeping expansion of its visa ban policy that could impact travelers from more than two dozen African countries, according to internal U.S. government documents. If enacted, the policy would place travel restrictions on citizens of 36 additional nations, 26 of them located in Africa, making the continent the most affected region under the administration’s immigration crackdown.
The proposed expansion follows a memorandum sent by Secretary of State Marco Rubio to U.S. representatives abroad on June 14, giving governments 60 days to meet new vetting and documentation standards set by the Department of State. Nations that fail to comply could face full or partial visa bans beginning as early as August. The deadline for submitting compliance plans passed earlier this week, though it remains unclear which countries, if any, met the requirement.
