WASHINGTON —Over a hundred people attended a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday morning on mass deportations. The hearing was convened by committee chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL) and ranking member Lindsey Graham (R-SC) with a dual focus.

Republicans used the hearing to blame President Joe Biden for what they say is a broken border warranting the mass deportation policies President-elect Donald Trump promised on the campaign trail.
Democrats used the hearing to caution against the inevitable excesses of the coming Trump administration, which, as Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) has pointed out, is stacked with extremists like incoming White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and incoming “border czar” Tom Homan.
“Get ready for an even more expensive food bill for next year’s Thanksgiving dinner,” said Padilla. “Prices will go up and up and up,” he continued, noting that American consumers will pay the price for the removal of hundreds of thousands of migrants, especially in the agricultural and construction sectors.
