Tribal Leaders Fight to Protect Citizens as Senate Democrats Raise Alarm About ICE Detentions
WASHINGTON — When discussing mass deportations, mainstream media often focus on Latinos, the largest immigrant group in the U.S. However, it is equally important to highlight other affected communities, such as Native Americans, who are also experiencing fear and uncertainty under the new administration's immigration policies.
HuffPost’s Jen Bendery scooped Thursday that Democratic Senators Martin Heinrich (NM) and Brian Schatz (HI) wrote a letter to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem imploring her to work with tribes to protect them from detention. The letter also asks for DHS to issue guidance to agents to recognize tribal identification as proof of U.S. citizenship.
