Luttrell Torpedoes Bacon's Green Cards
An update from the Texas Republican's spokesperson.
WASHINGTON — Rep. Morgan Luttrell of Texas, the lead GOP negotiator collaborating with Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi of New Jersey on a new immigration bill, opposes granting legal residency to undocumented migrants as part of the bipartisan proposal.
Callie Barry, a spokesperson for Luttrell, said Tuesday afternoon that the Texas Republican “is not involved or read in on that proposal and is not in favor of granting residency to illegal immigrants.”
Barry was responding to our interview Monday with Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska, the second of.a trio of GOP negotiators working with Suozzi. In the interview, Bacon proposes a new permanent residency program for migrant families.
“I think those who are otherwise legal—there may be a chance to get a green card legally, but you’ll never be a citizen. But your kids will be citizens. So we’re thinking along those lines,” Bacon said in a hallway interview on Monday.
