Labor Department Forms New Hub to Oversee Immigration Workstreams
OIP will direct cross-agency initiatives as workforce demands collide with border crackdowns
WASHINGTON — U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer announced the creation of a new Office of Immigration Policy (OIP) within the Office of the Secretary, according to a memorandum dated June 23, 2025. The temporary move, effective immediately, aims to strengthen oversight and coordination of immigration-related activities across the Department of Labor.
“Given the high-profile nature of employment-based immigration and necessity to coordinate implementation of Administration policy objectives across multiple federal agencies, I hereby temporarily establish the Office of Immigration Policy (OIP) within the OSEC,” Chavez-DeRemer wrote.
