Hakeem Jeffries Vows to Unmask ICE Agents (VIDEO)
"[E]very single one of them, no matter what it takes, no matter how long it takes, will, of course, be identified."
WASHINGTON — On Tuesday, we asked House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries about his call to identify the ICE agents who “physically accosted” Rep. LaMonica McIver, D-N.J., during an oversight inspection of an ICE detention center in Newark. We also asked whether the agents who allegedly harassed staff at the district office of Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., have been identified. Here’s what Jeffries said:
Transcript: Leader Jeffries
“Every single ICE agent who’s engaged in this aggressive overreach and are trying to hide their identities from the American people, will be unsuccessful in doing that. This is America. This is not the Soviet Union. We're not behind the Iron Curtain. This is not the 1930s and every single one of them, no matter what it takes, no matter how long it takes, will, of course, be identified.
That, in fact, is the law … and we’re gonna make sure that the American people have the transparency necessary to hold people accountable when their folks cross the line here in America. That’s what’s gonna happen and, as I mentioned earlier when I spoke to Congressman Nadler about this, our first priorities are gonna be making sure the person who was on the front line is in the best possible place to move forward.
That’s the case with LaMonica McIver and it is also the case with Congressman Nadler’s brave, young, patriotic staffer. And we’ve gotta address those issues first. That’s the human thing to do. While simultaneously, of course, preparing to deal with the broader policy implications which, as I mentioned, are underway. Thanks.”
Dig Deeper: Nadler’s Take
Here’s an interview Nadler gave to ABC’s New York affiliate about what happened at his district office last week:
We’ll continue to follow this story, especially the reports we’ve heard are being compiled about the incident. If you have any information about ICE activity at Nadler’s office last week, we’d like to hear from you: editor at migrantinsider.com
