ON WEDNESDAY …
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP issued an executive order authorizing the deportation of migrants who are critical of Israel. The order pressures schools to monitor and report the speech of migrant students and staff to state and federal agencies.
AT THE WHITE HOUSE … Trump also signed a memorandum directing the Defense and Homeland Security departments to prepare the U.S. Navy base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for repurposing as an ICE detention center.
DIG DEEPER: DHS is hoping to increase Gitmo’s capacity by over 30,000 beds at a moment when the sharp increases in migrant arrests since Sunday are straining ICE’s capacity to house the influx of detainees at their existing facilities.
IN THE SENATE … On Monday we asked several GOP senators about DACA. Trump has long said he wants to help Dreamers. We want to know how senate republicans plan to deliver for the president. "We'd have to look at it,” said Tommy Tuberville (R-AL). “Have no clue what area he's talking about [but] people here would listen to that. We would listen. We just gotta see what the text is."
