Bravo for this article. As a no-longer-practicing Catholic, I am truly grateful to the USCCB for taking this stand for children born in this Country. We can do better for the children - this is a good place to start.

The church has really stepped up in the eras of Francis and Leo. That's for sure.

Wonder how this will play out, especially considering the so-called Christians on the court.

I imagine the Roman Catholics will win. The big irony here is that most American Catholics voted for Trump, but the Bishops' Conference is no slouch when it comes to the courts. So I guess we'll see!

I’m so grateful that the Church has been such an advocate. We really need all the help we can get right now.

Totally agree. I wonder if Leo will visit the White House during Trump's term.

Fantastic move by the Catholic Church. Now they just need to excommunicate JD Vance, Leavitt, and any other Catholics in this corrupt administration.

Indeed! Here's a piece I wrote last September about the Bishop of San Diego that might be of interest: https://newrepublic.com/article/199760/bishop-made-ice-melt-away

I can’t help but wonder if this is their goal?

“Stateless individuals, the brief notes, are frequently denied birth certificates, barred from schools, blocked from employment and healthcare, and made targets for human trafficking and labor exploitation.”

Interesting. Did they file something similar in Italy? Children born in Italy to foreign parents can acquire citizenship if at least one parent has been a legal resident for 10 years. or Switzerland? Switzerland does not have unconditional birthright citizenship; citizenship is primarily based on descent. or France? Birthright citizenship is not automatic for children born to non-French parents unless specific conditions are met. or England? England does not have automatic birthright citizenship; citizenship is not granted solely by birth on UK soil. or Germany? Birthright citizenship is not granted solely based on being born in Germany. or many others?
