🚨BREAKING: Major Immigration Raids Have Begun in Our Nation's Capital
Federal agents begin terror campaign against migrant families as Trump’s "security" plan reshapes life in the District.
WASHINGTON — Federal immigration agents launched sweeping enforcement operations in the nation’s capital Tuesday morning, raiding a Home Depot on Rhode Island Avenue NE and carrying out targeted arrests in the Northwest neighborhood of Mount Pleasant.

Witnesses at the Home Depot said agents arrived at the store shortly after 8 a.m., detaining multiple individuals in the parking lot and loading them into unmarked vans. In Mount Pleasant, residents described a coordinated sweep involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents knocking on doors in what appeared to be targeted enforcement operations.
“Get a real job, asshole,” a resident told agents while filmed a raid on a rowhouse on Lamont Street NW.
The raids come one day after President Donald Trump’s administration placed the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department under federal control and deployed 800 National Guard troops to support agencies including ICE, the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service. The move has led to heightened patrols, checkpoints and targeted arrests across the city, raising alarm among the District’s large immigrant population.
“This is the worst fear coming true,” said a community organizer in Mount Pleasant who asked to remain nameless for fear of retribution by the feds. “People are staying inside, not going to work, not sending their kids to school because they’re afraid they won’t come home.”

The Trump administration has framed the federalization of D.C.’s police force as part of a broader public safety campaign. But immigrant advocates warn it is a pretext for mass deportations.
Earlier this year, from May 6 to 13, federal agents arrested 189 people — eight on criminal warrants and 181 on immigration charges — during a weeklong crackdown dubbed “Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful.” That operation also targeted more than 100 area businesses, primarily restaurants, with I-9 audits to verify employee work authorization.
Tuesday’s raids suggest a more aggressive phase of enforcement is underway, though federal officials have not yet released arrest numbers or commented on the scope of the operation.
