DEMOCRATS MOVE TO BLOCK TRUMP’S MILITARY TAKEOVER OF IMMIGRATION COURTS
WASHINGTON — On Wednesday, Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Rep. Juan Vargas (D-Calif.) introduced the Temporary Immigration Judge Integrity Act, legislation explicitly designed to prevent Trump from replacing fired immigration judges with unqualified temporary appointees—specifically blocking his plan to deploy up to 600 military lawyers as “deportation judges.”
Why it matters: After Trump fired or forced out more than 100 permanent immigration judges and announced plans to use Judge Advocate Generals (JAGs) and military attorneys with zero immigration law experience, Democrats are trying to establish basic qualification standards before the system gets completely gutted.
